• In this paper, Snowdon considers the following theses, amongst others:-
  1. I am a person.
     I am essentially a person (1E).
  2. The notion of a person involves distinct criteria of identity¹.
  3. I am an animal (of the species Homo sapiens).
     I am essentially such an animal (3E).
  4. The notion of such an animal involves distinct criteria of identity².
  5. If an object is an animal then it is not possible for that object to carry on existing without remaining an animal.
• AAT (Animal Attribute Theory of Personhood): X is a person if and only if X is an animal … of a kind whose typical members perceive, feel, remember, etc. …and conceive of themselves as perceiving, feeling, etc…
• PA (Psychological Animalism)³: any psychologically endowed thing must be an animal.
