Philosophers Index AbstractThe purpose of the article is to defend the view that materially identical objects are identical simpliciter. An argument to the contrary by Mark Johnston is criticized. In the course of the article a Lewisian four dimensional ontology and a counterpart theoretic interpretation of modal1 predication are defended.
