Paper Summary

Author’s Abstract

  1. Various reductive strategies for explaining consciousness are discussed.
  2. The problem of subjectivity is distinguished from the problem of qualia, noting that some theories treat one but not the other.
  3. Higher-order theories are then considered and found wanting.
  4. Finally, representationalism, both externalist and internalist, is considered and found inadequate as well.
