  1. Explore some of the psychological mechanisms involved in maternal decisions to care for and invest in high-risk offspring;
  2. attempt to integrate psychological and evolutionary approaches to the study of child neglect by examining the relationship among maternal psychology, maternal behavior, and infant health characteristics in detail among a small population of extremely low-birth-weight (ELBW) preterm twins.
