Paper - Abstract

Paper Summary

Author’s Introduction

  1. There are - very, very, occasionally - papers in philosophy that say a decisive last word on some particular topic; equally rarely there are papers whose merit it is to say an illuminating first word.
  2. Such is the merit of Professor Frankfurt's paper. For while many philosophers have produced arguments and insights that have relevance to the topic of caring, almost no one else has addressed that topic directly and no one else has addressed it in such a way as to open up a whole new area for philosophical enquiry.
