- Ling Introduction:
- Sweden, located in the Scandinavian region of Europe, ranks amongst the highest in terms of happiness. Could it be the culture? Or the people? It is difficult to tell. When it comes to history, Sweden was part of the area where vikings originated, eventually making their way across the continent. There are many fascinating facts like these about Sweden, and perhaps the best way to discover them is by visiting. If you learn Swedish, you will get even more out of your visit.
- Swedish is a North Germanic language, just like Norwegian and Danish. This is why there is a certain level of mutual intelligibility between the three. There are more than 10 million speakers of Swedish, mostly located in Sweden and Finland. Within the country, there are many different dialects, the most notable of which can be seen between the northern and southern regions.
- Swedish uses two grammatical genders, masculine and feminine, and has two main grammatical cases, nominative and genitive. In terms of word order, it follows an SVO structure (subject, verb, then object) like in English. Pronouns in the language also follow a similar pattern as in English, with the two natural gender forms being used.
- Whether you are hoping to learn more about the vikings, meet with a local, or just explore the country, learning Swedish would come in very useful to achieve your goal. There are so many cool things to see and do in the country, and it may be possible to figure out why they are so happy.
