Author Narrative:

• See Wikipedia: Somerset Maugham.
• I first read (some of) W. Somerset Maugham’s short stories when still at school.
• However, it was probably the BBC TV series of 1969-70 (see IMDB: W. Somerset Maugham - TV Series (1969–1970)) that brought them alive. I was particularly affected by The Alien Corn.
• While it is said that Somerset Maugham isn’t an author of the first rank, he writes a good tale and such tales always seem to have some hidden depths.
• I’ve been adding my thoughts to quite a few of them as holiday reading, initially during 2015-17 - for "Somerset Maugham (W.) - Short Stories" - on my Blog¹.
• Subsequently, I've bought the full 4-volume set, and have been working my way through "Somerset Maugham (W.) - Collected Short Stories: Volume 1" from 2019 onwards.
