Introductory Notes

  1. This book was made available pre-publication (August 2024) and I’ve downloaded the free pdf – and now the free eBook – which seems to work fine on my Kindle for reading while walking Bertie. The eBook is unfortunately missing the diagrams, so I’m printing off the Chapter pdfs for subsequent review at my desk.
  2. I may buy the paperback when it comes out (or a cheap second-hand copy of the hardback).
  3. See the book’s website: Birch - The Edge of Sentience: Website.
  4. I’ve read the ‘Precautionary Framework’, repeated below, which is a summary of all the recommendations in the book and intend to add sundry footnotes to show where I do and don’t agree with the author. I may change my mind about these evaluations as I read and reflect on the text of the book, but I think it’s worth thinking hard about these issues before, during and after reading what the author has to say.
  5. As I read the Chapters, I added the TOCs and Summaries. Links are provided from the TOC below.
