Not bad as the standard is quite high 12 / 30 on 53.3%. </li><li><B>NICKO</B> (20/10/11): Played with David (+CL & MH). Lost by 2 IMP to Colchester B . </li><li><B>Essex Cup for Clubs</B> (Navestockside, Sunday 16/10/2011): Played for Hutton with Keith (+ AM & AF). Again, a good first session, followed by a collapse. We had a creditable first session, but after a disastrous second session, ended up 158 / 162, drawing one match and losing the other 6. In the first session we lost 9-11 to the Tams, when we should have won; put up a good fight against Janet De Botton and Thor Eric Hofstaniska; and also played well against a pair of junior internationals; and drew the last match. I think this wore us out as we got hammered in the last two rounds when you d expect to be picking up points against the also-rans.</li><li><B>Harrogate Swiss Pairs</B>: Played with Dave on 25th 26th February 2011. A bit of a disaster 22 / 29 on 43.2%. </li><li><B>Essex Swiss Pairs</B>: Played with Colin at Navestockside on Sunday 9th January 2011. This was a disappointment as we had to withdraw after the first session as Colin had toothache. We d won two of our four matches, having won the first 19-1 against an Essex pair, then losing narrowly to a pair of junior internationals from Cambridge, and to the pair who ultimately came 2nd, before beating another top pair. Only 0.75 GP gained, therefore. </li><li><B>Fletcher Trophy</B>: Played in the Essex inter-club Teams of Eight championships with Colin on Sunday 10th October 2010, representing Hutton; we just about managed to hold our end up, and the team scraped home in first place.</li><li><B>Felixstowe Congress</B>: Played on Saturday 2nd October 2010 with Colin in the GP Pairs. This was a great experience, but results-wise was rather disappointing. The standard seemed to be much higher than last year Colin and I got off to a good start good enough to get on the back-page of the Bulletin after the first day, anyway. But thereafter, the going got tough usually the case after a good start in a Swiss tournament. So, we ended up 268 / 352 having won 5, drawn 2 and lost 8 of our matches, for 1.5 GP. </li><li><B>Essex/Herts Swiss Pairs</B>: Played with Colin on Saturday 24th July 2010. Better than last year (with a different partner), but disappointing. Won 3 of 7 matches for 0.75 GPs. The first session was tough, but we were 12 IMPs up (no thanks to me and Dennis). The second half saw us fall away badly (again, no thanks to me and Dennis) and we ended up 51 IMPs, 20/22. A disgrace; which saw me sacked as Dennis s partner in the Essex Seniors (rather undeserved, I thought, not that I wanted to play in any case). </li><li><B>Portland Pairs</B>, March 2010: Played at Welwyn with Margaret. I m not sure whether I was ever a good bridge player, as it depends on what you mean by good . I (like to think that I) was one of the better players at Cheltenham Bridge Club within a year of learning the game, so think I have some natural aptitude. At Cambridge I was fortunate to run into a collection of exceptional players, most of whom have represented England at one time or another, or have otherwise made a mark in the bridge world: Richard Granville, Richard Fleet, Richard Benstead, Brian Callaghan, Steve Barnfield, John Armstrong (sadly now demised), Graham Kirby, David Burn, Phil Bailey, Rob Cliffe, ... Bridge wasn t my primary non-study activity which was rowing (and drinking) - and I couldn t really keep pace with this lot, so I wouldn t ask any of them for a reference. However, I just about squeezed into the second tier.</li></ol></P> <FONT COLOR = "0000FF"><BR><HR><h3 class = "Left">In-Page Footnotes:</h3><a name="On-Page_Link_846_1"></A><U><A HREF="#On-Page_Return_846_1"><B>Footnote 1</B></A></U>: Note that as of end-July 2017 I have ceased playing. <a name="On-Page_Link_846_2"></A><BR><BR><U><A HREF="#On-Page_Return_846_2"><B>Footnote 2</B></A></U>: These have been amortised over the years. <a name="On-Page_Link_846_3"></A><BR><BR><U><A HREF="#On-Page_Return_846_3"><B>Footnote 3</B></A></U>: Taking into account the BPs, which are converted at the rate 300 BPs = 1 GP. <a name="On-Page_Link_846_4"></A><BR><BR><U><A HREF="#On-Page_Return_846_4"><B>Footnote 4</B></A></U>: <ul type="disc"><li>The above snapshot was taken a few days before that my current rating is 58.07, ie. marginally lower but I can t be bothered to do another screen print.</li><li>It s not clear to me what s wrong I seemed to be paying as well or maybe as badly as usual. </li></ul> </center><br> <br><hr><h3 class = "Left">Printable Version:</h3> <UL><li>Follow (<A Href="Notes_Print/NotesPrint_846_0_P.htm" TARGET = "_top">this link</A>) for level 0.</li></UL> <a name="TableOfPreviousVersions"></a><BR><HR><h3 class= "Left">Table of the Previous 12 Versions of this Note: (of 28)</h3> <TABLE class = "ReadingList" WIDTH=700> <TR><TD WIDTH="20%" class = "BridgeCenter"><strong>Date</strong></TD> <TD WIDTH="10%" class = "BridgeRight"><strong>Length</strong></TD> <TD WIDTH="70%" class = "BridgeLeft"><strong>Title</strong></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">20/07/2017 14:34:05</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">36068</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42936607.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">10/04/2017 23:38:24</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">34969</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42835985.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">14/01/2017 20:18:14</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">32875</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42749846.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">14/10/2016 22:14:53</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">31607</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42657927.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">21/07/2016 16:12:00</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">30247</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42572675.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">07/01/2016 00:59:02</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">29275</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42376041.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">07/10/2015 00:27:22</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">28895</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42284019.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">13/01/2015 19:07:41</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">28385</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_42017797.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">07/10/2014 17:39:50</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">27445</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_41919736.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">04/07/2014 22:46:34</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">27196</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_41824949.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">04/04/2014 19:03:22</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">26900</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_41733794.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> <TR><TD class = "BridgeCenter">14/01/2014 17:57:07</TD> <TD class = "BridgeRight">25912</TD> <TD class = "BridgeLeft"><A HREF = "Notes_846_41653748.htm">Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date)</A></TD></TR> </TABLE> <BR><HR><BR><CENTER><TABLE class = "Bridge" WIDTH=950><TR> <TH WIDTH="25%">Note last updated</TH> <TH WIDTH="50%">Reference for this Topic</TH> <TH WIDTH="25%">Parent Topic</TH></TR> <TR><TD WIDTH="25%">09/10/2017 23:25:26</TD> <TD WIDTH="50%">846 (Status: Bridge (Summary of Progress to Date))</TD> <TD WIDTH="25%"><A href ="../../Notes/Notes_7/Notes_784.htm">Status: Bridge (2018 -
