A
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
OF
BRITISH MENSA
Aims : The Philosophical Discussion Group (PDG) is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of British Mensa. It provides a forum, via its newsletter Commensal and via its Internet discussion group PDGList, for debate on any issue from a philosophical perspective. Members need not be expert in any particular philosophical system, nor be devotees of any particular philosopher, but must desire, in any domain of enquiry, to get to the root of the matter.
Membership : the SIG is open to members of British Mensa, though members of Mensa International may also be able to join by contacting Sara Paine or Bobby Raikhy of British Mensa. Members of British Mensa may choose PDG as one of their two free SIGs. Otherwise, membership is £5 in the UK, £7.50 elsewhere. "Free SIG" membership requests may be sent via email, giving your name, postal address and Mensa membership number, claiming PDG as one of your two free SIGs. For "paying" members, cheques (made payable to British Mensa Limited), along with the above identifying information, should be sent to the Editor.
TO GET A FLAVOUR OF THE SIG, WHY NOT BROWSE THROUGH SOME PAST ISSUES OF OUR NEWSLETTER, COMMENSAL, OR ASK TO JOIN OUR DISCUSSION GROUP, PDGLIST ?
OVER THE WEEKEND OF 4th TO 6thMAY, WE WILL BE HOLDING OUR THIRD ANNUAL GATHERING AT BRAZIERS PARK, OXFORD. THE SUBJECT UNDER DISCUSSION IS CONSCIOUSNESS, SO IF THIS IS OF INTEREST TO YOU PLEASE FOLLOW THIS LINK FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

PDGList : This is the Internet discussion group of PDG and invited guests. To join PDGList you need first of all to log on to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and sign up to YahooGroups. Then you need to apply to join PDGList itself by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PDGList/ and then click on the "subscribe" link or button. I then need to accept your application, so please ensure I know who you are, and email me if not. You can also email me if the instructions don't work or you get stuck and I'll directly subscribe you. Once accepted, whenever anyone posts anything to the list, you will automatically receive an emailed copy of the posting. To post something yourself, just email to pdglist@YahooGroups.com and everyone on the list will receive a copy. Why not give it a go ?
Back Issues of Commensal : issues published in the last three years are available on-line <Click Here> in HTML versions. For those who've signed up for PDGList, MS Word 97 versions of all the back-issues of Commensal since I've been PDG Secretary (ie. since February 1997) are available in the "Files" area at the PDGList website (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PDGList/). All these issues are also available to all in PDF format. Hard copies are available from the Editor.
